Paint Shop Pro is a complete graphics and photo manipulation programme. For a free 3 month trial download click here.

Once you have downloaded PSP and installed it you will need to set up the toolbars.

Setting Up The Toolbars

If you click on View and then Toolbars, the toolbars dialog box will open.

Make sure that the boxes are ticked just the same as in the picture above.

The colour controls are now on the right side of the screen

The important controls at this stage are the Foreground and Background Colour Boxes. If you place you curser over either box the arrow will change to an eyedropper, if you left click your mouse The Colour Dialog Box will open.

Using this box you can select a basic colour or create a custom colour. Once you have selected a Foreground and Background colour, you can interchange them by clicking on the double-ended arrow between them.

On the left of the screen you have the Tool Palette

You can access any of the tools by left clicking on the desired icon. If you then right click on the icon, and choose Tool Options, the Tool Option Palette will open. This gives you the controls for the selected tool.

Photo Manipulation

Find the photo you want in your files by clicking on File and then Open

To resize an image click on Image

Select Resize. This will open the Resize Dialog Box
NOTE it is not practical to resize a photo to greater than the original size

Here is an image that has been resized to 50% of its original size. Notice how it has lost some of its clarity during the resizing process.

By clicking on Effects and then Sharpen you can get a better result. You can repeat the process if necessary.

To add a border around the image, select the desired colour in the Background Solid Colour Box. Click on Image

And select Add Borders. This will open the Add Border Dialog Box

The photo below has a border of 2

To get the effect below add a red 2 border, then change to white and add a 4 border, then another red 2 border.
