Site Map

To download a free copy of Front Page Express click here

Before you begin, you'll want to create a folder in your directory into which you can put any images for the page you will be working on and also the page itself.
Once you do that, you won't have any problem adding images to the page and all the file references will be correct. You may wish to use Explorer to move or copy any images you plan to use to this folder.
If you want to make alterations to an existing web page use the
WS_FTP programme to download the file into your folder, along with any images that appear on that page.

TOOLBAR

Your toolbar may be arranged differently than what is shown above. You can rearrange your toolbar by clicking on view on the menu bar and selecting all toolbars

TEXT

Entering text into a web page is very much like using any word processor programme. Just type the text and it will appear on the page. There are a few tricks you have to be aware off.

  • Line Break
When you press ENTER at the end of a line of text, the cursor drops down two lines and starts a new paragraph, but sometimes you want to go to the very next line after only a few words. As in the example below:

    LINE 1
    LINE 2

This is called a Line Break. To create a line break, simply hold down the SHIFT key and press ENTER. (Or Insert - Break)
In FrontPage Express, Line Breaks are denoted by a .

    Alignment
You can align text and pictures to the right, center, or left of your web page. To do this, highlight the text or picture you want to move and click on either the right, center, or left buttons on the toolbar.

    Indents
You can indent blocks as text as well. To indent text, click the "Increase Indent Icon" on the toolbar. To out-dent or un-indent some text, click the Decrease Indent Icon on the toolbar. When you indent or out-dent a block of text, the entire paragraph that the text is changed.

    Attributes

Front Page Express allows you to make all the same attribute changes you can make with Word 95 or 97. The first step in changing the text attributes is to highlight the text you want to modify. You can then make the following changes:

    • Font Type
To change the font type, select the font you want from the Font Type List Box on the toolbar. Don't use non-standard fonts because if the font you choose is not loaded onto the computer where your web page is being viewed the font will appear as the browser default font.

    • Font Style
The style of the text can either be bold, italics, or underline. To change the font style, select one or more of the Style Icons on the toolbar.

    • Font Color
The color of the text can also be changed. To change the font color, select the Text Colour Icon on the toolbar.

    • Font Size
You can change the font size by clicking the either the Increase or Decrease Text Size Icon

    Images

You can insert .gif, .jpg, or .bmp images into your web page. To insert an image, place your curser where you want to place the image and then:

    1. Click on Insert

    1. The Image Dialog Box appears. Click the Browse Button
    2. Find and select the image you wish to insert and click OK

The image will appear on the web page. After you have placed the image on the web page, you can change the position of the image by left clicking on the image and choosing either the Align Left, Center, or Align Right buttons.

    Links

Links create a connection between pages on your site or can be used to connect your page to any other on the World Wide Web.

To create a link to a page on another website, you first have to determine what you want to link to e.g. You may wish your viewers to click on the word "weather" and have them go to a site called
    http://www.weather.com .
Highlight the word "weather"(it can be an image). Click on the Create or Edit Hyperlink Icon

The Create Hyperlink Dialog Box will appear

Choose the World Wide Web tab. Then make sure the Hyperlink Type List Box is set to "http:" On the line titled URL type the address of the web page. In this case we would type out http://www.weather.com. Click the OK button.

To link pages within your site together, you first need to determine how the pages are to be connected. For example, you may want the viewers to click on the word "Contact", and have them go to a page called contact.htm. To do this, follow the same directions as above.
When the Create Hyperlink Dialog Box appears, choose the World Wide Web tab, and select "other" font the Hyperlink Type. On the URL line enter the name of the page you wish to connect i.e. contact.htm. Click the OK button.
