If you
have a question that doesn't appear here please feel free
to email us at questions@kamcom.co.nz .Search
Engine Optimization (SEO) is a complex and complicated
subject so no question is to trivial.
- What
is Search Engine Optimization?
The process of optimizing a web site so that it
appears high in the search engine rankings, for
the word or phrase that you would expect to find
it under.
- Why
do I need Search Engine Optimization?
A major Search Engine has hundreds of thousands
of web pages submitted every day. Only a few ever
get selected to be listed at all let alone
achieve a high ranking. Search Engine
Optimization dramatically increases your chances
of being one of those listings.

- What
does Search Engine Optimization cost?
This is a really difficult question and
impossible to answer until we see your web site.
Sometimes a site just needs a few minor changes
and resubmitting to a search engine. We will look
at your site and give you a FREE report
along with suggestions, and IF
you ask for one, a quotation on how much we would
charge you to implement those suggestions.( For a
FREE
REPORT click here)
- Can
I do it myself?
Yes of course some people do their own Search
Engine Optimization, but it takes a lot of
research for each search engine to find out what
they require Ideally you also need specialised
software to get the best results. But it can be
done.
If saving money is the aim, or you just want the
experience a better method is to work in with us,
let us advise and help you, while you do some of
the submitting work, link popularity work.
- What
is the difference between a Search Engine and a
Search Directory?
The difference lies in the way they respectively
find and categorize sites. A Search engine,
such as Google, Excite, and Lycos, rely on
"spiders" or "bots" (complex
programmes) to search the Web, collecting
information on new and updated sites. This
information is put into the searchable database
that is access when we enter a search query.
Search directories, such as Yahoo, are
created manually. This means that each of the
sites in a search directory has been screened and
categorized by a human being.
- What
are Keywords?
They are the words you think people searching for
your site are going to type in to their search
engine queries. These are the words you optimize
your web pages for. Ideally the keywords are
contained in the title, description, heading and
meta tags of a page.
- What
is Link Popularity?
It is quite simply the number of websites linking
to yours. Link popularity is one of the search
engines responses to the challenge of
continuously delivering relevant links to their
users. The concept is based on the theory that
the more links a site has to it the better the
site is. Not all links are judged by the
search engines as being equal, those that are
relevant to your site hold more weight, for
example links from other web design companies or
search engine optimizers would be judged more
important for this site than links from say
engineering firms and music sites. A search
engine also penalize the use of link farms and
sites that appear to be linked to yours just to
gain link popularity.
- What
is Spam
Search engine SPAM is when a search engine
consider you to be flooding their data bases by
submitting too many pages too often or by
submitting the same pages again and again. Other
forms of SPAM include pages that contain meta
tags that have nothing to do with the actual
page, and submitting the same exact page from
different addresses.
- What
are Doorway Pages?
These are pages that are created specifically to
gain search engine positions. They target a
specific keyword or phrase and basically contain
no real information, just text that repeats the
keyword as many times as possible. All search
engines consider these types of pages as spam. It
is possible to turn a legitimate webpage into a
doorway page and this is one of the methods a SEO
uses.
