Paid Web Site Promotion

As with most things in life once you start paying for something you generally have more options. This is true with web site promotion as well. However expensive does not necessarily mean better. With some you will achieve great results while others will be a waist of time and money, so think carefully before rushing in.

  1. Paid Links
Yahoo would be the classic example of a paid link. It is one of the internets biggest directories, but recently has begun to charge for submissions. There's no doubt that you will increase your traffic, if you obtain a high ranking in Yahoo, but there's no guarantee that if you pay them they will list you at all.
    Personally I wouldn't use a paid link

    .
  2. Direct Mail
This can be a good method, and also get around the problem of spam e-mail. If your business is one that normally benefits from mail drops, consider putting out circulars announcing your web site along with any advantages you can think off, to the customer, in visiting it.

  3. E-mail Newsletters
Buying advertising space on someone's newsletter can be an excellent way of promoting your web site, provided the e-mail list is targeted at your customer group.
It has the advantage of being read by people who already accept the information contained in the newsletter, (otherwise they would have opted out), and you add has the implied endorsement of the writer. You could try to get the writer to give your site a plug as well as running an add.

  4. Banner Adds
This is very popular on the internet. It's for you to decide if people will click through to your site from a banner add.
There are numerous free banner exchanges which may appeal to you, if your target audience is quite large. Consider what your site will look like hosting a banner, will it detract from credibility?
Paid banner ads are probably the better alternative, provided you can purchase space from websites that compliment yours, and the price is reasonable. The best kind of deal to get is one where you only pay for the people that "click through" to your site.

  5. Web Site Optimization
One of the better things to invest money in is optimizing your web site. The majority of new targeted traffic comes through the search engines.
It needn't be an expensive exercise; many web sites just need a bit of "code tweaking", minor rewriting, and resubmitting to the search engines. For many companies the cost would be the same as a small newspaper add.

  6. On-Line Marketing Companies
If your time is limited and you have the budget; it may be worth consulting an on-line marketing company. These are similar to advertising agencies in the real world. They can give impressive results, but you defiantly pay for their expertise.
