  1. Your audience.
These are the people most likely to buy your product. The more specific you can be, the more effective your marketing will be. All your marketing efforts must be done with them in mind; it is useless to attract people to your site if they are unlikely to buy a product.

  2. How you will monitor your marketing
Consider how you are going to monitor the effect of your advertising, or test any changes you make to your web site.
There are many companies on the net that can provide you with statistics on who visits your site, what search engine and phrases they used, or if they typed in your URL (www.yourname.com), meaning that they probably were attracted to your site by off-line advertising.

  3. How often you're going to change your add copy.
It is important to keep your advertising fresh, both on-line and off. Regardless of how well it is working, different ads will attract different people. You could consider rotating 2 or 3 successful ads on a monthly basis.

  4. Target one advertising medium at any one time
This way you judge, by using your site statistics, if that particular medium is working to attract people to your site.

A web site is like any other business, it's no good having a fantastic product or service if no-body gets to hear about it.
Target your market, advertise, monitor your results, and constantly strive to improve on them.

There are two basic ways of promoting your web site:
